36:02:00
those because we want all of the
36:04:00
inventors to feel comfortable before
36:05:00
they ever submit an invention to quirky
36:07:00
if it's not what you want certainly
36:09:00
don't put it up there yeah and that's
36:12:00
one of the biggest things and I know
36:14:00
that in the in the end I would rather
36:17:00
have a large corporation and legal-like
36:20:00
quirky backing up my invention then you
36:23:00
know again go after it myself and I did
36:24:00
do some research on this particular
36:27:00
topic with quirky before our show and I
36:30:00
haven't found anyone that had problems
36:33:00
with someone stealing their idea in the
36:35:00
many years business which to me is
36:38:00
phenomenal yeah absolutely I mean we
36:40:00
have listen we there have been instances
36:42:00
where other manufacturers have you know
36:46:00
tried to knockoff quirky products and we
36:48:00
have taken legal action against them so
36:50:00
we take it very seriously and we do
36:53:00
pursue litigation when we feel that you
36:56:00
know our inventors are being taken
36:59:00
advantage of or so that that's important
37:02:00
to us so some we can't go after all of
37:03:00
them it's really hard to go after a
37:05:00
shell company in China where you don't
37:08:00
even know who actually owns this company
37:10:00
so let me say that but we do try to
37:13:00
evaluate every instance of when that
37:17:00
happens and do whatever it is we can do
37:19:00
to protect the inventions and the
37:21:00
inventors because they deserve it yeah
37:23:00
and again doing a great job I III speak
37:26:00
with our inventors here at the launch
37:27:00
pad that if if your product is
37:30:00
successful you will probably get knocked
37:32:00
off in some version or some way and you
37:36:00
know and again it's like we talked about
37:37:00
cell phones and I mean Apple has what
37:39:00
40% of the market yeah is there other
37:41:00
cell phones yes other car manufacturers
37:43:00
you know go after your niche and supply
37:46:00
to your
37:47:00
tribe to your customer worried about is
37:50:00
somebody's gonna make another mousetrap
37:51:00
or try to copy you just do a good job
37:53:00
sell your product to the people that
37:55:00
want to buy your product well I think
37:57:00
that again having a company like work
37:59:00
you backing my idea where I wouldn't be
38:01:00
able to go after anybody or that power I
38:04:00
think it's kind of a great way for
38:06:00
people to feel better about their idea
38:08:00
yeah and I think you know people
38:10:00
consumers make decisions at the Shelf to
38:14:00
buy brands that mean something to them
38:16:00
and the quirky brand means something to
38:18:00
them so they want to see that a portion
38:22:00
of their spend is going back to an
38:25:00
inventor who's just like them and being
38:27:00
split amongst you know 1,000 different
38:30:00
influencers who helped to create that
38:32:00
product so we're really focused on
38:34:00
building our brand and being true to our
38:36:00
brand and and working with retailers and
38:39:00
putting lots of fun marketing campaigns
38:42:00
you know out to consumers to build the
38:45:00
brand so that when you're deciding to
38:47:00
put your invention on quirky you can
38:48:00
also know that you're gonna get the
38:49:00
benefit of that brand halo so when
38:51:00
someone is in the top shelf and looking
38:53:00
at well there's this quirky cord
38:56:00
organizer or there's this knockoff you
38:59:00
know key Curlin quirky you know key :
39:02:00
cord organizer which one do I want to
39:04:00
buy you know I sure maybe even Corky's
39:06:00
is a dollar or two more but you know
39:08:00
it's it's fun it's a great brand it
39:10:00
stands for real people like me and I'm
39:13:00
looking on the back and I see you know
39:16:00
Debbie's picture and it makes me feel
39:19:00
good and and it's a cool product and
39:21:00
they want to support that
39:22:00
so shoppers are drawn to the four key
39:24:00
brand and we will continue to build that
39:27:00
brand in order to win the hearts and
39:29:00
minds of shoppers itself yeah well again
39:32:00
you're exactly right and you don't need
39:34:00
to commoditize yourself all your
39:37:00
inventors out there you just need to
39:39:00
make a good product of if you are going
39:41:00
to as Gina knows only worry about your
39:45:00
price if you're gonna compete on price
39:46:00
you already lost so product give quality
39:50:00
and have a great brand behind you and
39:52:00
you won't have to compete on price and
39:54:00
it's it's kind of awesome what you guys
39:56:00
are doing so I sound like I sound like
39:58:00
it's you're here for Court guys really
40:01:00
covering all the bases because I've been
40:03:00
any eventual for so long and really
40:05:00
never has someone come in and be able to
40:08:00
help the the inventors out there as much
40:12:00
as you can being able to throw the
40:13:00
resources that you guys have at a
40:15:00
project it's phenomenal it really is
40:18:00
thank you we hope so it's gonna be an
40:20:00
incredible and - you know end of this
40:23:00
year in 2018 it's gonna be even bigger
40:26:00
for us so we can't wait oh there's no
40:29:00
doubt in my mind and I'm glad to be
40:30:00
involved in it I know we're running
40:32:00
short on time there were a couple other
40:34:00
questions did you have some other
40:35:00
questions that you wanted to go through
40:37:00
but I had someone asked me who am I
40:46:00
and what's who are you and what's your
40:48:00
vision so I guess really quickly I III
40:52:00
would say I am a trained marketer who
40:55:00
has spent eight years creating global
40:57:00
marketing campaigns for some of the
41:00:00
world's largest brands like P&G; and UPS
41:03:00
I'm also a successful entrepreneur who's
41:06:00
founded and run a company successfully
41:08:00
and profitably first over six years in
41:11:00
the innovation space and I'm a huge fan
41:14:00
of quirky and I'm a user of perky who
41:17:00
has now assumed the position of
41:19:00
president to help steward the relaunch
41:22:00
of this beloved platform and my vision
41:24:00
is you know the same vision it is to
41:26:00
make invention accessible but my vision
41:29:00
is to make it mention accessible by
41:31:00
allowing the world's biggest brands and
41:33:00
top manufacturers to tap into the
41:36:00
creativity of the quirky community yeah
41:39:00
and I don't see anybody better to be at
41:42:00
the helm of the ship or in reality
41:44:00
because you have some great people under
41:45:00
you and I think that you guys are doing
41:49:00
a great job so far it's it's been a
41:50:00
short run you've done so much in a
41:53:00
little bit of amount of time you've had
41:54:00
and and I don't really think that people
41:58:00
realize how much has been done in the
42:00:00
background to get where you guys are
42:01:00
right now well thank you I really
42:03:00
appreciate it every day is you know
42:05:00
there's a little mountain we climb and
42:06:00
the support of the inventor community is
42:09:00
everything and we really appreciate it
42:11:00
and we want the continued feedback when
42:12:00
we don't do something right
42:14:00
or when something's confusing please
42:16:00
tell us that constructive criticism only
42:18:00
helps us create a better platform for
42:20:00
the invention ecosystem yeah no doubt I
42:23:00
mean this is the invention world I mean
42:24:00
nothing's done perfectly it just doesn't
42:26:00
happen you have to be open-minded to get
42:28:00
an invention or a product done so that
42:32:00
people will accept it so it's just
42:34:00
something in business yep absolutely
42:36:00
well very good Jean I know that you
42:38:00
gotta go
42:39:00
I appreciate I know we went a little bit
42:41:00
over time and again we are so happy that
42:43:00
you found some time to get on the show
42:45:00
today answer some questions and I'm
42:47:00
hoping that quirky foreign comes back
42:49:00
with any other questions anything else
42:51:00
that you guys are in there get in touch
42:53:00
with quirky go on Corky and they can ask
42:56:00
a question directly go on the forum on
42:58:00
quirky sign up don't just just don't
43:01:00
look at it don't sit in the sidelines
43:02:00
sign up for court because you don't
43:03:00
really have to have an invention to jump
43:05:00
right yeah you can add just start by
43:07:00
contributing to others inventions and
43:09:00
that's a great way to get started yeah
43:11:00
you can feel better you can see how the
43:12:00
system runs and I know there's people
43:14:00
out there who love to give their ideas
43:19:00
and how to change things you know and so
43:23:00
go ahead and sign up for quirky see how
43:24:00
it runs before you put your product up
43:26:00
there and feel a little bit more
43:28:00
comfortable so and I'm on Twitter at G
43:32:00
wold horn and if you have any other
43:35:00
questions you can always email questions
43:37:00
at quirky com
43:38:00
yeah very important to get that out
43:40:00
there so again this is Carmen disco from
43:44:00
inventors at launchpad and again I thank
43:46:00
Jeana Walt horn for being on the show
43:49:00
