Eight years ago I was laid off from my job.
The country was in the middle of a recession, and the government wasn't hiring.
After 2 months of trying to get a job without any luck, I began to feel that I would never get one. So I did what most do in that situation, I started a business.
And I have to admit, I had the right contacts in place that for the first 5 or 6 months things went really well.
...and then the money dried up.
I didn't have a plan in place to get new business. Hell, I didn't know how to get new business.
In all honesty I didn't quite understand what it was I did exactly...and neither did anyone else.
I created and organized events and raised money via sponsorship to pay for them.
I would analyze the health of non-profits and small businesses and create strategic plans for them.
I would do freelance work raising money for organizations.
I built websites.
I was hired to do some political consulting on a few campaigns.
I updated resumes and built out LinkedIn pages.
As you can see, I was all over the place. My single goal was to keep the lights on, and at times, even that was a struggle.
...but I survived, and sometimes even thrived.
Fast forward to 2013 and I have this brilliant idea and decide I would create this awesome new product and launch it to the world.
After quite a few stumbles and some major successes, I was able to exit that company in the black.
I have gone on to coach hundreds of entrepreneurs, raise over $1M for their products and services, launch Founders Brunch, a bi-annual brunch where founders come from all over the country to fellowship around entrepreneurship, and become a start up mentor for the State of Florida.
I've also launched a new program to help inventors build and launch their products.

so knowing the losses experiencing the

losses both in time and in money makes

these are the people who basically don't

apparel company and there's this new

type of technology to what I'm doing and

this thing is gonna make me super rich

and I'm gonna have it in my family for

a half into it I realized that I did not

like having a glove company I was like

this is not what I'm gonna do

like with my life like I don't want to

do this and there's other things that I

want to do and then what happened was

people started to ask me because they

saw how successful I was and they were

enjoyed the process of building that

responsibility of this thing and focus

dawned on me that the way for me to

support other people it's a lot easier

struggling with the reality that people

have liked them to move at and that

and so I have a coach and he had to say

that was such a hard thing for me to

understand and for me to accept that not

the winning formula right in front of

me and so I really had to kind of come

to grips with the fact that people are

can just be there show up with support

the last year on that professional

desperation of adventures like these are

some of the most fragile entrepreneurs

because these are people who are taking

their dreams or taking their baby their

secret private thing that they want to

birth and they're sharing it with

someone and they're being taken

advantage of so I completely understand

the logical and rationale behind that

fear because it has been validated so

many times but you can find on any

review website when it comes to a lot of

these and bicha companies so I

understand that fear and that's why it's

important a that if you can't talk to

the person directly like if you're not

able to have access to the mind the

genius behind whatever the company is

directly there's a good possibility that

you will be forgotten that you will be

kind of lost in the fray and I

understand that as companies grow larger

access becomes a lot more slim but there

still should be an opportunity for

access I don't I think no matter how big

my company gets there should be at least

once a month where I'm getting on the

live whatever and I don't care if

there's a thousand inventors on the

phone they need to be able to hear me

speak they need to know that I'm

connected to their visions and their

dreams and that I care about them and I

think that that's what it really was

they're not out here just like trying to

swindle people like they genuinely care

some products that are legitimately

gonna change the way certain practices

are done in certain industries and I'm

just like I mean the towing industry is

gonna get a hit from David like we have

some we have some products that are just

gonna completely change the way like

sunny has a product that's gonna change

the way diapers are made you know it's

just crazy like some of the products

that they're coming up with and so I get

excited about most of them yeah and all

of them are great ideas otherwise we

wouldn't let him in the program so all

of them are great ideas with

profitability but some of them are gonna

completely change the game it's like

I love about it too is whenever we have

a product and I see it out and out being

like I was in the airport and I saw a

backpack somebody's wearing that we had

mean we manufacture that we made that

it's so cool you know I walked up with

know can you like that pride they think

my personal experience when I saw my

product being used and when people were

tagging me in Instagram videos and

YouTube videos and when somebody was

wearing it on TV and like a marathon the

mayor had it on and I was just like oh

my god like this is so crazy like this

is something that was just an idea in my
35:50:00
head like less than a year ago and now
35:52:00
people are wearing it all around the
35:54:00
world people are cycling in Europe
35:55:00
wearing this product and like sending me
35:58:00
videos and pictures and it was just so

incredible and so I you know I'd say to
36:03:00
them I said guys you don't understand

like even if you don't make a million
36:06:00
dollars there's something really special
36:08:00
and beautiful about saying something

that was just an idea in your head being

worn and being used by people all over

the world just that alone makes you feel

that and we're not all inventors and

new stuff yeah we like new things we

like new things and we also like to

support people and so we like to be the

one to say and this is something I've

noticed I supported their crowdfunding

campaign like when somebody gets really

big it's like I bought one of the first
37:04:00
20 products I've you know I helped with

there's like people love taking credit
37:11:00
like me go by like I went to high school

with this famous person no it's like

they never talked to them never had a
37:18:00
class with them but they just shared the
37:20:00
same halls and that's enough for them to
37:22:00
like say I know this person because we
37:25:00
went to the same high school even if it
37:27:00
was ten years prior you know so like

there is something about people loving

love the loving to be connected to
37:34:00
success right and so they love to
37:37:00
support new ideas and innovation because

they want to see you succeed they want

to pour into that I actually challenge

think we're all inventors

I think a lot of us are just afraid of

some of the ideas we have and we don't

think they're smart or we think they're

stupid because we've been conditioned to

believe that we don't have great ideas

circumstances we've experienced but I

I believe that not enough emphasis I'm

in the tech community or the side of

community focuses on physical consumer

that they're embracing the consumer
