The Bounce Curl Story
I am the Creator/Formulator of Bounce Curl Products and I am more than excited to share my curl secrets with you! My main goal is to empower all individuals to achieve their own dreams.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a strong focus in Chemistry. My solid foundation and extensive experience in Chemistry were valuable tools as I began formulating the first innovative Bounce Curl products. During those first four years of formulations with Bounce Curl, I also became a product formulator for over 5 different companies in the hair care, skincare, and body supplement industry. But, it did not take long for me to realize that I needed to expand my Bounce Curl product line into shampoos and conditioners so that clients could be confident that their shampoo, conditioner, cleansing conditioner, and light creme gel would all work well together and give them amazing results!
So, in the fall of 2017, I was thrilled to present an entire Bounce Curl product line for men, women and youngsters with Wavy, Curly, or Kinky curls!
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
I have had curly hair all my life and struggled for so many years trying to figure out how to properly style my curls. The list of products I’ve tried are endless. I became frustrated with all the unsuccessful results from the harsh products I was using, so I decided to do something about it! After spending 3-4 hours a day in chemistry class labs mixing acids, balancing acid/base equations, analyzing bacteria in microbiology, and reading IR spectrums - I helped create Bounce Curl and I have also created beauty products for other companies in this incredible industry.
My parents taught me from a young age to take great care of my hair. I have always had long, shiny and strong hair and I believe it is because I was raised to use only home-made, natural ingredients on my hair. My grandmother played an important role in developing my hair care routines and she has been my inspiration for Bounce Curl. She would mix up special formulas using only natural ingredients and she always used black seed oil. Nigella Sativa (black seed oil) is one of the secret middle eastern oils and has been used by me and my family for many years. My experience with natural ingredients date back to my childhood. I have fond memories of going to my backyard, scraping aloe vera out of the plant, boiling flax seeds and using them as hair gels. I love mixology and DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects!
The Bounce Curl Tradition of Excellence
At Bounce Curl, we are committed to creating products that do not use harsh chemicals. We carefully select natural ingredients that can style, moisturize and hold your beautiful curls. There are certain ingredients that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requires us to include in our products; preservatives are a good example of this because they work to keep the product stable and safe from growing any bacteria. FDA has strict rules and, as a responsible company, we follow the rules! At Bounce Curl, we believe that Beauty is Shared. We realize that every individual is different and educate our customers on hair, skin & body care. We are HUGE FANS of mixology. You will want to check out our blog section where we share advice, news and product reviews. We are also committed to Serving with a Genuine and Pure Heart, exemplified by our Custom Wig Donation Program. Every month we create and donate a full custom wig with real human hair to an individual who has lost their hair to chemotherapy or any other medical condition. As a company with the heart and intention to serve, we are pleased to be able to help those going through difficult times; everyone should feel beautiful!

I am carmine danesco your host for
0:07
today's show I have with me a
0:10
entrepreneur a person who's really
0:12
getting out in social media world her
0:14
name is Miss mo from bounce and we're
0:18
gonna about what you've been up to how
0:21
she got started house really has built a
0:23
presence on the social media front and
0:25
I'm gonna bring her on we'll get going
0:29
hey okay good I'm good today's a it's a
0:38
pretty relaxed day so I'm excited to
0:40
kind of share my story with you guys
0:42
I've I've already told my social media
0:45
that I would be doing a podcast soon so
0:47
I know everybody's really excited to
0:49
hear so yeah yeah I appreciate you going
0:53
on I know that you've been running
0:54
around you have a lot of travel um
0:58
much for your business or it's mostly
1:00
kind of in in local local I know you you
1:03
you your products are sold all over the
1:05
world travel offer it up for the company
1:07
oh yes definitely I travel at least
1:13
three times a month right now so I'm a
1:16
formulator for my company so I actually
1:18
make the products myself in my lab and I
1:21
have to travel all around different
1:23
states testing hair products and
1:25
different weather conditions humidity I
1:29
mean I know it's humid out there but
1:31
it's pretty dry out here so yeah I'm
1:34
always traveling all the time it is
1:36
online company so I'm not kind of
1:40
stationed at one place I just kind of
1:42
can go wherever so yeah we just solve
1:45
all around the world food so to like I
1:48
don't know I think it was like 100
1:51
countries I believe oh yeah I try to you
1:55
know bounce Oh made it so many other
1:57
places that I've never even thought of
1:59
so I'm trying to catch up yeah well
2:03
that's the kind of like fun thing about
2:04
being entrepreneur a lot of our
2:06
listeners are just getting started in
2:08
business or their inventors kind of like
2:09
how you started a great story you know a
2:13
lot
2:13
people only see the sixties when a
2:16
business that's doing well and they
2:19
don't realize the struggles and things
2:20
that you overcome and things that are
2:22
cooked can get you going and I was
2:24
reading little bit about your story even
2:26
when you say I'm a formulator and I make
2:29
it in my lab you just go wow she's
2:32
actually got her hands really in this
2:34
business yes definitely I think it's
2:38
such a blessed thing it's my favorite
2:40
thing to do super hands-on I mean you
2:45
know people out there they kind of have
2:47
to a lab making something for them but
2:50
in my case I can make you know all the
2:53
products and I source all the
2:55
ingredients from really good factories
2:58
and stuff like that so yeah that's kind
3:01
of one thing that I do is I travel to
3:03
different countries to play around with
3:05
some of their extras so soon I'm going
3:09
to be going to buy and I'm going to be
3:14
extracting some of their goals so
3:16
there's 24 karat gold and we're going to
3:18
be putting it in some skincare so I'm
3:21
excited about that as you know when we
3:28
were talking podcast what our executive
3:31
producer on the show with us today one
3:33
is because she great questions and she's
3:36
been following you on Instagram and
3:37
social the other is I don't know
3:40
anything about hair I don't even have
3:42
any myself some questions that really
3:47
pertain to hair because I don't know
3:49
anything about it hi everyone I'm Serina
3:53
I asked mismo to be on the show today
3:56
because I've been following her for so
3:59
long and I think that she has a great
4:00
story and she could really teach a lot
4:04
of inventors and entrepreneurs so thank
4:06
you for being on the show and I just
4:08
want you to add in here what bounced
4:10
curl is because I don't think that oh
4:12
there's a lot of products specially for
4:14
curly hair but the way that you've
4:16
created balance cool I don't know like a
4:18
low or what exactly but you've created
4:21
something that's very different for it
4:24
seems to be like the only effective
4:26
products for actually curly hair so
4:29
thank you here focus yeah so bounce
4:34
curls have started on the idea of you
4:37
know I couldn't find any hair products
4:39
that would work for my curl type a lot
4:42
of people are really heavy into the
4:45
creams and oils and I have pretty much
4:47
pre thin hair so I created something it
4:50
took me years to create something and it
4:52
was just on the side but being a
4:55
formulator and having a science
4:57
background in my degree I do know that
5:01
there's so many ingredients out there
5:03
that are really harmful I mean there's
5:06
some ingredients out there that can
5:07
cause cancer or skin and you know when
5:10
you're putting it on your hands and
5:12
moving in your hair it's going to absorb
5:13
into your hands so my my whole thing
5:16
behind bounce curl is that I want to
5:18
create products that are do not have
5:22
harsh chemicals you know most hair care
5:24
products don't have too much of you know
5:26
harsh chemicals anything that's going to
5:29
cause cancer but I kind of try to stay
5:32
away from you know silicone sulfates
5:34
parabens we have a new thing now where
5:37
we're creating products that have the
5:39
fragrance is actually made of essential
5:43
oils so all of our new products have
5:45
fragrances made out of essential oils so
5:48
you know within the word fragrance there
5:51
can be about I don't know 50 ingredients
5:53
that the United States does not have a
5:56
list them it just they just have it
5:58
listed as fragrance so you know I'm
6:01
trying my best to kind of create
6:03
products that are more on the healthy
6:06
side and you know I'm still in the
6:08
beginning stages we are coming out with
6:10
a whole new line but yeah so far my gel
6:14
has been really Universal been working
6:16
for a lot of different hair types
6:18
everybody uses it I mean wavy hair -
6:22
really really kinky coily hair - you
6:25
know my curls it's been really Universal
6:28
Universal product so I'm really excited
6:30
about that but yeah that's kind of my
6:33
mission is to create products that are
6:35
more on the healthier side and kind of
6:38
leaving the harsh chemicals out
6:40
yeah cuz you're also you're also working
6:42
with a few other girls currently that
6:45
you created I know a deep conditioning
6:47
mask and then something Alex yeah yeah
6:51
definitely
6:52
so what I've done throughout the years
6:54
is I've helped about probably it's going
7:00
on maybe like my ninth woman I think
7:03
five of them are out but I've been
7:06
helping women create their own product
7:08
and it's been it's been a long journey
7:12
but that's kind of why I'm like extra
7:14
busy too but I just found that it's
7:17
really helpful I mean that's kind of
7:19
when my business kind of exploded and I
7:22
got to see all the success and you know
7:25
everything that comes with it I was like
7:26
you know I have to figure out a way to
7:28
help my friends help other women kind of
7:32
achieve this as well and I mean it's
7:34
such a blessing so I've helped obvious
7:38
women creatives their businesses we have
7:39
a skincare line called fantasy and a
7:44
haircare line called rock in and she
7:47
specializes in deep treatments only so
7:50
it'll be anywhere from a scalp treatment
7:52
to a deep conditioner protein treatment
7:57
stuff like that she's on her fifth
7:59
product I think yeah she's coming out
8:01
with her fifth product now and we
8:03
created another skincare line it's going
8:06
to be all natural skincare lines and we
8:10
have three more companies coming out
8:12
soon one will be I mean I say we because
8:16
I helped formulate for them some of them
8:19
I'm actually business partners with them
8:21
some of them my kind of helps about and
8:23
we have a pair perfume coming out
8:27
another enteric treatment company coming
8:29
out I mean it goes on and on and on I
8:31
mean my brain goes on and on and on it
8:35
doesn't stop I mean I've you know when
8:37
people say you have to do what you love
8:39
I genuinely truly love what I do so if
8:42
it doesn't seem of course to me but yeah
8:44
we have all those look for the answers
8:46
well that's exciting
8:48
I'm so surprised like when I heard that
8:51
you had actually been studying dentistry
8:53
for a while oh that's such a different
8:57
type of thing oh my god yes definitely
9:02
so when I was 17 I went to Dental
9:05
Assisting school and then I was trying
9:09
to be a dental hygienist by the time I
9:11
was 20 I finished my prereq for dental
9:15
hygiene and I was like you know I'm
9:16
still young and I think I need to go
9:19
ahead and try to be a dentist so I went
9:21
to school to you know get all my pre pre
9:25
dental stuff out of the way which is
9:26
heavy into chemistry biology and I was
9:31
orthodontic assistant for about five
9:34
years five to six years and I used to
9:38
wake up in the morning 6:00 in the
9:40
morning go to work leave at 5:00 p.m.
9:42
and then rush to school and I wouldn't
9:45
get out of school until 11 o'clock at
9:46
night straight for like five six years
9:49
and it was crazy but I started studying
9:54
for my be a team which is my dental
9:56
admissions exam and that test when you
9:59
take it it takes a four hours just to
10:01
take it so you can imagine everything
10:04
that I learned in school and more was in
10:07
that test and it was really really hard
10:09
I studied for it for about six months
10:11
and it really made me think like what if
10:15
I don't pass this test what if I don't
10:16
get accepted into dental school what if
10:19
what if what if so my number one key in
10:23
life is to always have a plan a plan B
10:28
Plan C plan D you know I have four plan
10:32
so my plan was to okay what am I going
10:36
to use my hala schooling for like what
10:39
you know my favorite things to do in
10:41
school was chemistry in the lab that I
10:44
was sit there in you know for four hours
10:47
in the lab I mean it was crazy it wasn't
10:49
we weren't making anything I wanted to
10:50
make at the time but I said you know
10:52
what I could probably put my schooling
10:54
to use and let me go ahead and try to
10:57
create a product so I created bounce
11:00
pearl a cream gel and during the time
11:04
waiting to get accepted to dental school
11:07
I came up with gospel on social media so
11:11
I would tell everybody ahead of time it
11:13
was like I think it was like a year
11:15
ahead of time that I was telling
11:16
everybody on my social media I had about
11:18
twenty thousand followers on social
11:20
media and that came from my hair a lot
11:24
of people would read post pictures of my
11:26
hair and so I already had a hair
11:28
following and I would tell people hey
11:31
you know I'm coming out with a product
11:33
I'm coming out with product and the
11:35
second that I came out with that product
11:37
it got pulled out in two weeks so I was
11:41
like oh okay well I basically made more
11:46
money than I think a dentist would make
11:49
in about a month so then I accepted to
11:54
LSU dental school so then I was faced
11:57
with the decision like oh my god what am
11:59
I going to do and I was like okay well
12:04
talk to my family about it and my family
12:06
was just like kind of shocked they
12:08
didn't even know what I was doing when I
12:09
was trying to create a product and they
12:12
were like what you're gonna waste all
12:13
those years and I'm like I don't know I
12:15
don't know you know maybe I can apply to
12:17
dental school again next year maybe I
12:20
should you know continue going with this
12:22
I mean I worked six years to get into
12:24
dental school and then I finally got in
12:26
and bounced curl was basically like no
12:29
don't go to school some dolphin is
12:32
doping and I was like okay you know what
12:35
I just kind of stuck with bounce curl
12:37
and bounce curl and build my dream every
12:40
dream that I could possibly have um I
12:43
was I was going to go to dental school
12:45
and I was going to have loans so my lows
12:47
were probably going to be anywhere from
12:48
400,000 just to finish dental school and
12:52
live somewhere so I might go south curl
12:56
and bounce curl
12:57
ever since then just kept blowing up
12:59
over and over and over and over over
13:01
again oh yeah that's my dental school
13:05
hugging you know congratulations first
13:08
off that you got into dental school why
13:11
you were telling a story don't know
13:12
there was no question in my mind that
13:14
you were gonna make it in auto school
13:16
but sometimes you need to go through
13:18
those things to realize what you want to
13:21
in the end and it's cool that you
13:23
decided move forward with with bounce
13:27
Carla because it's it's pretty cool how
13:29
that happened well I think it's so funny
13:31
that social media kind of convinced you
13:34
yeah is everything I mean the way bounce
13:40
pearl got really really big soon after
13:43
that it was about five months into
13:45
business we started in December 2015
13:49
five months into business my video went
13:52
viral
13:53
and it ended up getting like three
13:55
million views all over Facebook
13:58
all this stuff and I mean we got so many
14:03
orders that it pulled me out again after
14:05
five months and I was like oh my god so
14:09
I'm at home I used to do it at home I
14:11
used to pack my boxes at home I'm at
14:14
home like ready to pull my hair out I'm
14:17
so glad that I we got all these quarters
14:19
but I was like ready to pull my hair out
14:20
because I couldn't fulfill all the
14:23
lawyers by myself but my whole family
14:25
came and we're seeing they're packing
14:28
boxes and then I was like you know what
14:30
I have to take this to a fulfillment
14:32
center and they have to professionally
14:34
do it for me because there was so many
14:36
orders and then that's a fill-in Center
14:39
and ER ended up charging me like triple
14:43
the amount of money that they shut up so
14:45
then that taught me a lesson and I was
14:48
like you know what I'm just going to
14:49
open my own fulfillment center so I went
14:51
got a warehouse open my own fulfillment
14:54
center and now I had I made two business
14:57
out of it so we fulfilled products for
15:00
other companies and then we also fulfill
15:01
products for alcohol too so definitely
15:04
lots of lessons learned and lots of
15:06
things I mean my business ended up
15:08
exploding and I wasn't ready for that I
15:11
mean I'm I'm a science background and I
15:13
only have about thirty credits in
15:15
business and in school and it's
15:18
completely not what it is and realized
15:20
you know what you learn in school so I
15:22
had to kind of learn everything and it
15:25
was um it was pretty hectic I'm still
15:28
catching up with my business so my
15:30
business blew up and I'm all the way
15:32
down here just kind of like
15:34
the latter and trying to make myself
15:36
professional and organized oh god it's
15:41
finally working now no question for you
15:46
um so a lot of our listeners are
15:48
inventors and they're and they're just
15:49
listening I hope your perking up going
15:51
my god I hope my product blows up like
15:54
you know yours did luckily you were able
15:58
to fulfill those orders now were you in
16:00
the labs making this product or did you
16:03
have help or did you foresee the
16:05
increase in the need of your product or
16:08
you know it just was just a huge shock
16:12
it was definitely a huge shock I didn't
16:16
do anything for my for my video to go
16:18
viral somebody posted it it was actually
16:21
a very it was like a media company and
16:23
there forgot the name of it Berra Irish
16:27
company from Ireland and they reposted
16:31
my video and it got three million views
16:34
and I was like oh my god this is crazy
16:38
but Yahoo definitely in the lab I was in
16:40
the lab making more products and working
16:43
with the bigger lab and at this time my
16:47
I had pretty good good inventory I was
16:50
set like I was like oh there's no way
16:51
I'm going to run out and then boom all
16:54
but it just happened so my best advice
16:58
for people who are owning a business and
17:01
they're doing you know marketing online
17:03
and stuff like that is to always try to
17:09
create interesting videos so the video
17:13
that kind of went viral it went viral
17:16
because you see me coming out of the
17:19
shower and when my hair is wet it's kind
17:21
of like really flat and it's like they
17:23
look great and I take my plot up and I
17:25
split the product in my hair and then I
17:28
diffuse it which is this whole thing on
17:31
top of the blow-dryer and when I'm
17:33
diffusing it my hair just kind of glows
17:35
bigger and bigger and it gets curlier so
17:38
that was a really good visual for people
17:40
and at this time I don't think there was
17:42
too many videos out there like that now
17:44
there's hundreds and thousands of videos
17:47
like that but there
17:48
is too many videos out there and so they
17:51
took that homemade video and ran with it
17:54
and made this point everywhere so my
17:57
best bet my best advice for everybody is
17:59
to try to create really good visual
18:02
videos for people to see because that's
18:06
kind of what's really cool about this
18:08
era now is that you can create something
18:10
a video something and people kind of see
18:13
it and they're like ooh I want to buy
18:14
that you know there's a cover photo
18:18
it's called cover photo went on
18:20
Instagram and Facebook it is the cover
18:23
photo means when you are scrolling in
18:26
your phone you got you kind of get to
18:29
see the cover photo of something that
18:31
cover photo has to be really interesting
18:33
I believe my cover photo was of me of
18:37
comparing my straight wet hair to
18:40
another picture of me with my big curly
18:43
hair so people like oh how did she do
18:45
that
18:45
and then they tuned into the video and
18:48
then it makes it really interesting so
18:50
that's my best advice for people who are
18:54
trying to make videos and content for
18:57
their products and businesses now when
19:00
you say wet hair you're talking like
19:01
being wet yeah
19:05
what like out of the shower with well
19:10
what's good about the videos and I know
19:12
Serena has some stuff to throw in is
19:14
that when some people try to market
19:17
their product you advertising they're
19:19
talking to such a huge group of people
19:21
that it's not targeted what's good what
19:23
your videos is someone who doesn't have
19:25
hair like you or doesn't need what you
19:27
have they're not going to watch it but
19:29
the people that will be engaged on
19:31
they'll be very interest and so I think
19:33
being able to create those videos
19:36
specific for the target market really
19:39
helps you and of course they were
19:40
interesting but it's a target more
19:42
targeted video that just you expand
19:48
yeah exactly everyone watching the video
19:50
is gonna go and purchase the cream right
19:52
after watching it yeah definitely
19:55
it's definitely definitely party
19:58
specific purpose videos and yeah I
20:02
really I really that kind of what's
20:05
really helped me a lot is that you know
20:07
creating videos and you know my
20:10
customers are you can't I kind of set an
20:13
example of what I do on you know on my
20:16
pages and stuff like that so when I
20:18
create a video with doing my hair then
20:20
it kind of makes my customers want to do
20:22
the same thing so I've been blessed with
20:25
a whole bunch of customers who create
20:28
free video tutorials so once we set an
20:31
example for somebody they start doing it
20:33
and then we repost them so they're
20:35
gaining followers so it's kind of like a
20:37
win-win situation for both of us for me
20:40
and my customer very cool do you have
20:45
people who have purchased your crap and
20:48
utilize your product you see does it
20:50
seem like they're kind of following you
20:52
not not copying your product but
20:55
starting businesses that are successful
20:57
using your formula not your formula not
21:01
your formula of your product but formula
21:03
of how you are getting customers oh yeah
21:07
definitely I think that when I first
21:10
started about curls I think I was one of
21:14
the first not one of the first mainly
21:16
one of the first indie brands that kind
21:19
of came out and then now you see
21:22
thousands of indie brands with hair
21:25
specifically and they kind of definitely
21:28
you could see that they're doing the
21:30
same thing that I that I'm doing for
21:32
sure and you know this is taking over on
21:35
another note there are a few companies
21:37
that have actually tried to you know
21:41
copy my formula to so it's crazy it's a
21:45
crazy world but I just feel like there
21:47
is no competition out there because we
21:50
you know I'm very personal with my brand
21:53
and everybody who tuned in to my brand
21:57
that they they can kind of you know
22:01
their father
22:01
me so it's really important to be
22:05
personal with your you know with your
22:07
customers and stuff like that and that's
22:08
that you know when you come we come out
22:10
with new products and stuff like that
22:11
day they always seem to buy so that's
22:16
the really cool part about social media
22:17
nowadays but yeah I definitely see so
22:20
many people doing the exact same thing
22:24
we're doing and it's working great for
22:25
everybody I actually know a few people
22:27
who have started hair care companies and
22:30
you know I ask them they say is very
22:32
very lucrative and you know they follow
22:35
the same method they I feel like some
22:37
people even you know go on our page and
22:39
take some of our customers and ask them
22:42
hey can we send you some free products
22:44
so it's definitely a sharing sharing
22:47
world out there everybody's you know
22:50
getting ideas from everybody so it's
22:52
always really really best to kind of be
22:54
really unique and kind of come out with
22:57
your own ideas first oh yeah yeah well
23:02
like I love that you say that and I
23:04
always talk about you're building a
23:06
brand with your product and no clients
23:10
are buying products but they're really
23:12
buying into the brand they're your tribe
23:13
they're your fault the products that you
23:15
put out they're gonna believe in the
23:16
products somebody tries to copy you or
23:18
reformulate it or make something like
23:20
and that's fine because they'll build
23:22
their own tribe they'll build their own
23:23
follow you don't need to worry about
23:25
it's great that you don't I think it's
23:27
awesome and will help our inventors not
23:30
to be fearful about something like and
23:33
it's do that so one of the question I
23:35
want to jump into and hear a lot with
23:37
our inventors or listeners is how did
23:40
you come up with pricing for your
23:41
product and how important is the pricing
23:44
in reality i screen um in the beginning
23:51
stages I was definitely not sure what I
23:54
was going to price it but of course is
23:58
definitely comparing it to other
24:00:00
products that kind of were similar or
24:04:00
that yeah I basically kind of consider
24:09:00
other products that was similar I
24:12:00
definitely didn't want to sell it too
24:14:00
high
24:14:00
but I definitely want to sell to low but
24:17:00
my best bet my best advice is to kind of
24:20:00
do some research see what all you know
24:24:00
see what ten different companies are
24:25:00
selling their products for and then kind
24:28:00
of meet the same range or you know if
24:30:00
you want to go a little bit lower you
24:33:00
have to stop you have to faster in
24:35:00
everything you have to kind of see how
24:37:00
much it costs you to get the product you
24:40:00
have to see how much it would cost for
24:41:00
shipping does it make sense to price it
24:44:00
you know
24:45:00
this high or does it make sense so for
24:47:00
example we have a skincare company they
24:51:00
they weigh really really less so they
24:54:00
worry about two ounces that's two
24:57:00
product and so what we do is we offer
24:59:00
free shipping because it costs very low
25:03:00
sexy products versus bounce cold gel is
25:07:00
eight ounces and what's packaging with a
25:10:00
box and everything it costs a lot of
25:12:00
money to ship so we actually do not
25:15:00
offer free shipping for balance curls so
25:18:00
there's so many keys and then you know
25:20:00
things that factors that into the price
25:22:00
and I just think that you have to
25:26:00
probably get about ten different
25:28:00
products that are kind of similar to
25:29:00
yours and just kind of go from there
25:31:00
doing some comparing contrasting and
25:34:00
then just kind of figure out which price
25:36:00
point I mean there's some companies that
25:39:00
have like five owners you know so this
25:42:00
company's at two owners you know one
25:44:00
owner three owners so it's just really
25:47:00
important to kind of write down every
25:49:00
single thing that's going to cost you
25:50:00
money even your website credit card
25:53:00
charges you have to factor out
25:56:00
everything to see how much profit margin
25:58:00
you're actually gonna make yeah that's a
26:01:00
good some really good advice because a
26:02:00
lot of times inventor their products
26:05:00
developers they're selling product and
26:07:00
they think they're busy and they're
26:08:00
selling things out and shipping things
26:09:00
but in reality they're not really making
26:12:00
enough to cover their boils up they're
26:13:00
just so happy to be really resource or
26:16:00
looking that you know that can really
26:18:00
creep up on you and take a bite out of
26:21:00
your definitely it definitely can and as
26:26:00
an entrepreneur as a beginning
26:27:00
entrepreneurs
26:28:00
people may not even know so when I first
26:31:00
started my business I I was like okay
26:36:00
making this much money and I never even
26:40:00
thought about the credit card fees the
26:43:00
merchant services until the following
26:46:00
year when I went to the bank and the
26:48:00
bank asked me hey like to you for your
26:52:00
credit card merchant services and I
26:55:00
pulled them and they said hey well we
26:56:00
can save you some money and then I
26:58:00
really got down to the box and I was
27:00:00
like wait a second so how much has my
27:02:00
you know my website and merchant
27:04:00
services been taking for me and I
27:06:00
figured the numbers out and I was like
27:08:00
wow okay so some things like you you
27:11:00
just don't even know about you kind of
27:13:00
have to learn but you know like like
27:16:00
like I said I didn't know too much about
27:18:00
business in the beginning but now I feel
27:21:00
I feel pretty good but definitely write
27:23:00
everything down my best advice write it
27:27:00
all down write it all down even you know
27:30:00
you're packaging everything multiply it
27:32:00
by the big numbers see how much
27:35:00
everything is in a cob so yeah that's
27:37:00
very important
27:38:00
yeah do you see yourself and I know you
27:41:00
like to do a lot of things you're a
27:42:00
hands-on what do most inventors or
27:46:00
entrepreneurs do you see like they need
27:48:00
a core team of people not even if so
27:50:00
much else just to bounce ideas off
27:51:00
everyone free once in a while go man
27:53:00
help with this
27:54:00
oh yes definitely so in the beginning
27:59:00
what I would do is I would create my own
28:01:00
product in my lab at my home lab and
28:04:00
then what I did was I would give it to
28:07:00
give my formula to a bigger lab that
28:10:00
allowed to actually manufactures
28:12:00
everything and I work closely with a
28:15:00
chemist there and so we've been doing
28:18:00
this for about five six years now and
28:22:00
I'm so picky when it comes to improving
28:25:00
products I'm like unbelievably picky
28:27:00
that is kind of stressed me out so this
28:31:00
year finally what I decided to do was I
28:35:00
hired another tenant so I was so big I
28:40:00
was in the lab maybe like
28:42:00
all day long creating products I got so
28:45:00
obsessed with creating products that
28:48:00
sometimes I would go shower and wash my
28:51:00
hair three times a day just to try out
28:54:00
all the products that I created so
28:57:00
that's one that's not healthy too it
28:59:00
could damage my hair at that many time
29:02:00
so I decided you know what definitely
29:05:00
time for me to hire a chemist another
29:07:00
chemist on team so now it's three
29:10:00
chemists esteem my new chemist and old
29:13:00
chemist so we all work together to
29:15:00
create products now and everything is
29:17:00
going a lot faster I was able to approve
29:20:00
five more products so that was really
29:24:00
exciting but yeah I definitely got
29:25:00
burned out so I had to take a step back
29:29:00
and you know hire help hire more help
29:32:00
for sure yeah now you're gonna have to
29:35:00
hire like four or five people just to
29:37:00
take showers and test your products most
29:40:00
offices have desks you're gonna have
29:41:00
showers yeah so when we create the
29:46:00
samples we actually I actually have a
29:48:00
set of 50 different women who try out
29:52:00
product so it's you know it's a process
29:56:00
we have to try it and different in time
29:59:00
different hair types all kinds of
30:01:00
different things playing the factor so
30:03:00
that's kind of why it takes forever to
30:05:00
approve a product you know that was one
30:08:00
of the questions I was going to ask you
30:09:00
that you brought up I mean there is so
30:11:00
many different like he said so many
30:12:00
different people sometimes and things
30:15:00
like that and I can tell just by how you
30:17:00
proceed in business that you're all
30:20:00
those little things and it seems like
30:23:00
because you are so meticulous which
30:25:00
again sometimes can work against you but
30:27:00
it is the thing don't have as many
30:30:00
issues it seems like um we do we have
30:36:00
issues we have a lot of issues you know
30:40:00
when I first came out with bounced curl
30:43:00
initially it was just some bit of a test
30:45:00
you know it was a pressing thing it was
30:48:00
my plan being my product works for a lot
30:52:00
of women and it doesn't work for some
30:54:00
people so
30:56:00
up in the beginning of my business to be
31:00:00
like oh my god
31:01:00
no you know I really upset when somebody
31:04:00
said it didn't work for them but after a
31:07:00
few years kind of accept the fact that
31:10:00
your product is just not going to work
31:12:00
for everybody so that was kind of
31:14:00
getting more ambition to create products
31:19:00
that are specific to this so that's the
31:24:00
beauty of creating your own brand is
31:26:00
that you can have so many different
31:28:00
products for so many different people so
31:31:00
that's kind of what I've been working on
31:32:00
a lot of people will get really upset
31:35:00
when they first see or hear that
31:38:00
somebody didn't like their products but
31:40:00
I'm here to tell you guys and it's okay
31:42:00
nobody is always going to be 100%
31:44:00
satisfied I mean we get customers that
31:48:00
email us like oh my god I hate your
31:51:00
product I want to run and then in
31:54:00
reality they actually just really love
31:56:00
the product but they just want their
31:58:00
money back
31:59:00
just because they're out here scamming
32:00:00
people I mean it's crazy there's so many
32:03:00
different types of customers it's it's
32:06:00
crazy but they definitely have defined
32:08:00
Who I am now so I'm very thankful for
32:10:00
all the good and the bad customers that
32:12:00
we've had for sure yeah well it's great
32:15:00
you could say that and I entrepreneur a
32:17:00
business owner with all thick skin and
32:19:00
I'm so glad that you've come to the fact
32:21:00
that you just can't please everyone and
32:23:00
you're not trying and that makes a
32:25:00
better product of business in the long
32:27:00
run because you're not trying to please
32:29:00
everyone you're just trying to please
32:30:00
the people that like your product yeah
32:33:00
definitely so quickly you know we're
32:38:00
starting to get a little bit further
32:39:00
than that but I know that you also love
32:43:00
helping other entrepreneurs is that
32:46:00
something that you are like that you're
32:48:00
looking for we're looking to help people
32:50:00
or it happens people contact you
32:54:00
well it's been so many different women
32:58:00
lately so I do feel like maybe next year
33:01:00
within a year or two I'm definitely
33:04:00
going to create some sort of business
33:06:00
where I can help people with their ideas
33:09:00
for sure you know I don't know how I end
33:13:00
up doing such a business person because
33:15:00
I'm just like the nerd in the background
33:18:00
just creating products and chemicals and
33:21:00
stuff like that so but I definitely see
33:25:00
something good happening there a lot of
33:28:00
people come up with really good ideas so
33:30:00
one of the girls that I created a skin
33:33:00
care with she actually used to create
33:35:00
her skin care at home and so when she
33:39:00
would create it at home and she sent it
33:41:00
to me and it was really good so I was
33:43:00
like wow you know I could I feel like
33:45:00
maybe I could be like my own little you
33:49:00
know my own little Shark Tank one day
33:51:00
because I like to watch shark shark
33:52:00
tanks but maybe I could you know kind of
33:55:00
invest in people and people's ideas in
33:57:00
the future obviously right now I'm too
33:59:00
busy
34:00:00
but I've basically invested in so many
34:03:00
different women and the women that I've
34:06:00
chosen so far our women who have you
34:09:00
know gone through hard times they have a
34:12:00
really rough life or you know but I see
34:15:00
something really good in them I see that
34:17:00
they're really ambitious and then that
34:19:00
some of them have followers some of them
34:21:00
don't have any followers and the ones
34:23:00
that don't have followers they're so
34:24:00
ambitious that they are starting to get
34:27:00
followers so they know what they're
34:29:00
doing I kind of gave them like a recipe
34:31:00
and they they do everything that I tell
34:34:00
them to do so it's going really good for
34:35:00
them but yeah I definitely want to start
34:38:00
a company where I will be helping people
34:40:00
and investing in some people's ideas and
34:43:00
stuff like that so I definitely have my
34:48:00
lab is getting bigger and bigger so I
34:50:00
bought it this other portion of another
34:52:00
lab so it's getting bigger and bigger
34:54:00
I'm excited about that so I definitely
34:57:00
see myself doing that for sure Wow yeah
35:00:00
well that's great I i congratulate on
35:03:00
that because um i think a lot of people
35:05:00
out there need some help somebody like
35:07:00
who's actually done a lot of people talk
35:09:00
about it URIs but you got thrown into it
35:12:00
and you've learned so much because of
35:14:00
that you know not to waste your time
35:16:00
with this or that you're like no just
35:18:00
leave that alone go here that's kind of
35:20:00
what you can really accelerate helping
35:24:00
these entrepreneurs are these inventors
35:25:00
because you've done it you got thrown
35:28:00
into it so quickly so I think that's
35:30:00
awesome but so the question do you do
35:32:00
anything for yourself for enjoyment I
35:33:00
know you love what no let me know for
35:37:00
fun you know lately it hasn't I haven't
35:42:00
been doing anything for myself like I
35:44:00
said I just hired the new chemist it's
35:46:00
been two months of her working for me
35:49:00
and so I've kind of stepped away from of
35:53:00
the lab a little bit I still I'm in
35:55:00
there a few times a week but I just
35:59:00
moved so I you know I'm dealing with
36:01:00
this but I am promising myself that this
36:06:00
you know upcoming this year I'm going to
36:10:00
relax I'm going to relax I'm trying to
36:14:00
do yoga every Sunday just to kind of
36:17:00
relax my mind and relax my body I do
36:19:00
workout three times a week and I don't
36:24:00
have too much of a personal life so
36:26:00
that's going to that's kind of what I'm
36:28:00
going to focus on is my personal life I
36:31:00
can't you know I don't want to be lonely
36:32:00
for the rest of my life I'm not lonely I
36:35:00
have a bunch of friends a bunch of
36:37:00
family but I need to go out there and
36:40:00
kind of you know have a personal life go
36:43:00
out a little bit enjoy myself go drink
36:47:00
some wine relax
36:48:00
so that's going to be my next goal my
36:51:00
next goal is to have a personal life oh
36:55:00
yeah I have no night that it seems like
36:58:00
you're working towards that now so
37:00:00
that's good yeah Jackie are you working
37:01:00
on and thinking about it so you had some
37:03:00
screen okay yeah that's awesome that
37:07:00
you're doing that a lot of entrepreneurs
37:08:00
they won't even think about that so it's
37:10:00
really cool that you're doing that for
37:12:00
yourself really that's left what's next
37:17:00
anything big coming up any kind of
37:19:00
announcement products that you're
37:20:00
allowed to talk
37:21:00
out or any event with you you or meet
37:24:00
you yet so I've been you know working
37:29:00
really hard on the business side and
37:31:00
I've organized a bunch of things now and
37:33:00
we are going to be coming out with a
37:35:00
whole new line of products for bounce
37:38:00
curls and for the other companies as
37:40:00
well I'm very excited about that we're
37:43:00
probably going to be changing our look
37:44:00
so our packaging is going to be more
37:46:00
luxurious taking it more to Dubai too as
37:51:00
well so I'm Middle Eastern and I feel
37:54:00
like I have definitely helped a lot of
37:56:00
America a lot of South America kind of
37:59:00
embraced their curly hair but I just
38:02:00
feel like I have not tapped into the
38:05:00
Middle Eastern women they I feel like
38:08:00
they're still out there straightening
38:09:00
their hair so I just really kind of want
38:12:00
to tap into that market and how to help
38:14:00
women embrace their natural beauty which
38:17:00
is their curly hair so that's my next
38:19:00
goal when it comes to the business as
38:21:00
well but yeah we're definitely kind of
38:23:00
come out with new products and probably
38:26:00
in about two months or so and they're
38:28:00
amazing and I've also given anybody
38:33:00
who's listening to the podcast a
38:36:00
discount code and the discount code is
38:39:00
called inventors with a lowercase I so
38:46:00
yeah I'll be go ahead and up sending
38:47:00
this podcast to a bunch of people you
38:49:00
know on my side because I have so many
38:53:00
customers who are just really inspired
38:55:00
by the whole story and by my school by
38:57:00
the business so yeah that's gonna be my
39:00:00
discount code of course it'd be free
39:02:00
yeah yeah that's my first pot oh pretty
39:07:00
nervous but I think it went well
39:12:00
natural so yeah no no and and you know
39:16:00
what about it is that disciplining our
39:20:00
listeners need it they you know it's not
39:22:00
coming from a book it's coming from
39:24:00
somebody who's a complete first hand so
39:26:00
that's so great about it and um thank
39:29:00
you for the code our listeners I won't
39:32:00
be to use it but our listeners will be
39:34:00
able to do that end
39:35:00
go check it out so I would love to have
39:38:00
you back on during your launch of your
39:40:00
new product I would love to hear about
39:42:00
how it's going and what you're
39:43:00
experiencing and things like that but
39:44:00
we'll we'll kind of talk about that I so
39:47:00
cool
39:47:00
you know it's weird to have a new line
39:49:00
coming out and then you talk about doing
39:51:00
a repackaging a rebranding it's like you
39:53:00
love putting these huge staple self and
39:56:00
see I'm really I'm really really excited
40:04:00
about it
40:04:00
um yeah it's definitely time for to look
40:08:00
to you know new product new book it's
40:11:00
gonna be really big so I'm very excited
40:14:00
