0:05
I am commenting danesco your host for
0:07
today's show of one of my favorites the
0:10
licensing jungle with my co-host the man
0:13
who I have to listen to I've got to give
0:16
him props he's got it going on he's
0:18
helping a lot of people out there with
0:19
the licensing just business in general I
0:22
know he gets a lot of calls and he's
0:24
given us some time today is the Jeffrey
0:26
man gonna say Jeffrey over there hey
0:28
carmine I'm over here thank you so much
0:30
good seeing you again my friend
0:31
absolutely this is so great I'm glad
0:34
that you made it on the show today I'm a
0:35
little bit discombobulated
0:37
just because I'm disassembling our
0:39
studio we're moving up in you know
0:41
turned it into a mobile office for the
0:43
American Dreams Academy it's happening
0:46
tomorrow through Friday it's going to be
0:49
actually all over the country they're
0:51
gonna be doing at several different
0:52
college campuses but we are doing our
0:55
shows from the University of Tampa and
0:59
we're gonna have some people from HSN
1:01
there vice president of HSN we're gonna
1:02
have JJ grant lamp Rambert from MSNBC if
1:07
your business we're gonna have a bunch
1:09
of cool people that are Randy's up for
1:10
person to be there some other people
1:12
gonna be doing some cool interviews and
1:14
yeah we're just someone our most studio
1:17
it sounds like a lot of fun yeah that
1:20
sounds it sounds busy but fun absolutely
1:23
we get wires and you make it all nice
1:27
and clean and you get your studio set up
1:29
and you know we have extras we have a
1:31
mobile studio where we have a microphone
1:33
and a couple thing but because they're
1:34
gonna be so many people and we're gonna
1:36
be doing multiple interviews and video
1:38
that will kind of bring everything will
1:41
sits just right right yeah so what's
1:44
happening with you man what's going on
1:46
oh well I just you know again I know
1:48
every time we past couple podcasts you
1:52
know we've talked about the book the
1:53
book is on its way we I'm really super
1:58
excited about this new book to come out
2:01
it's gonna help my goal honestly as a
2:04
coach and as just being in the
2:06
innovation world is to help every every
2:08
single inventor I can and this book I
2:10
feel is gonna reach way more than
2:13
I can by myself you know and it's really
2:16
you know I didn't leave a single thing
2:18
out and I know this is how my goal in
2:21
hopes is going to help someone out there
2:23
learn the process of licensing and learn
2:26
how to do this business and innovation
2:27
and that's what it's all about you know
2:29
education well I'm sure we've got a lot
2:32
of people waiting for the book come out
2:33
I am and I know we've got a lot of
2:36
people a lot of listeners that send me
2:38
an email to basically put them on a list
2:41
to notify and once that book hits market
2:43
I know it's going to be like it's gonna
2:44
be available electronically probably for
2:46
a fact it's gonna be yeah it's gonna be
2:49
on all formats and then yeah we're just
2:52
we're talking about everything we're
2:53
gonna do a huge book launch and really
2:55
excited so yeah way to go man you can
2:58
distribute your books so quick
2:59
electronic formats I mean everybody's
3:02
ready to receive it they purchase it or
3:07
get it so it's a lot better than
3:08
printing and moving around books are
3:10
heavy man electronic is so great
3:17
absolutely but you know what and I'm
3:20
gonna tell myself I just I'm just a
3:22
sucker for holding a book right I'm
3:25
opening up the pages you know and I just
3:28
I just love that you know I do love my
3:30
Kindle I get it you know I totally love
3:32
it but there's nothing like get the book
3:34
in the mail or on the library and open
3:36
up a book yeah I call it page dust yeah
3:49
page dust you know is that smell yeah it
3:52
just you can't you can't can't beat it
3:55
nerd subjects and you know we had called
4:09
people and I know you had some people
4:11
write in about using video for that
4:15
all-important sale sheet or that first
4:17
introduction or to talk about your
4:20
product I mean the me video is so cool
4:23
to be able to use the not only
4:24
introducer product but maybe to
4:26
introduce
4:27
so we're talking about problem-solving I
4:29
mean you get a lot of that or do you
4:31
recommend let's get into that let's talk
4:33
about what the best process is
4:35
yeah let's focus in on that today we in
4:37
today's show because uh you know
4:39
honestly predominantly and and from my
4:42
experience from my own experience and
4:44
from all my students and just the the
4:47
actual innovation you know world in
4:51
general video has become the almost
4:56
primary source of how to look at a
4:59
product you know of course sell sheets
5:01
never go will never go away you know
5:04
sell sheets are always going to be
5:05
prominent in the industry but the way
5:07
the speed of things and you know being
5:11
able to you know it potential Isis ease
5:14
they want to see a product you know in
5:18
action they want to see it work and they
5:19
want to see it solve a problem and video
5:22
is almost a necessity now you know if
5:25
you if you're in the product development
5:27
stage with your manufacturing if you're
5:30
going for investors or if you're going
5:31
for licensing if you don't know how to
5:34
do a video we're gonna talk about how to
5:36
do one today but if you don't know how
5:38
to do that put it put it in your
5:41
schedule to learn how to do it and and
5:45
make it part of your business because
5:47
it's just it's mandatory almost yes yeah
5:52
I mean it seems like that you know you a
5:55
lot of times here at the launch pad
5:56
we'll get a link to get pictures of
6:00
products we used to get you know a quick
6:02
description and now we've got a link to
6:04
like YouTube or or you know video or
6:07
whatever and it basically just a link to
6:09
a video and me it's a lot easier for me
6:12
to just click on that watch it maybe
6:13
while I'm doing a little bit of work
6:14
than reading this people right exactly
6:18
right and that's the thing you know when
6:20
a potential license II they are they're
6:23
busy
6:24
we all are everyone's extremely busy and
6:26
these folks have if you have reached a
6:30
point where you have reached out to
6:31
potential Isis you've called them on the
6:33
phone you have spoken to them and they
6:35
have expressed interest in your product
6:36
and they you know if you're if you're
6:39
going to send them a sell sheet you want
6:41
to
6:41
sure that in the cell sheet you have a
6:43
video as well to coincide with it and
6:46
now also that video is should be
6:50
embedded in the cell sheet so that way
6:53
the potential I see gets both you know
6:55
best of both worlds against the cell
6:57
sheet and the link to the video but
6:59
they're so busy they'd rather watch the
7:01
video and and this is where we want to
7:03
go into the semantics of video today a
7:05
product demonstration video there's a
7:08
whole big difference that you I want
7:11
we're going to talk about today cuz I
7:13
want to get into well if they're Perkin
7:25
up let's get let's get into it then a
7:26
video product demonstration video number
7:29
one the number one rule you want to is
7:32
you want to show the problem and you
7:34
want to show the solution and you want
7:37
to do say it all in this video and you
7:40
want to do it let in less than 90
7:42
seconds 90 seconds actually is the
7:46
longest time you want and I bet
7:48
everyone's if you're listening out
7:50
you're thinking how can I convey my
7:52
product how can I convey what's the
7:55
message is in in 90 seconds well well
7:59
here's the rub and you know as you know
8:02
carmine I shoot straight from the hip
8:05
and this is it
8:06
if you cannot convey the problem and
8:09
show the problem and show your product
8:12
providing that solution in a video less
8:15
than 90 seconds you need to go back to
8:16
the drawing board you need to go back
8:18
and figure it out figure out the main
8:21
benefit of your product and that goes
8:23
back into cell sheets you know and
8:25
figuring out you know whatever benefits
8:28
your product has figure out the main one
8:31
what's the biggest problem that it's all
8:33
right and if that problem is going to be
8:36
marketable and that's a whole other
8:37
other episode but in the video that's
8:41
what you have to you have to basically
8:44
give that potential licensee and aha
8:46
moment they need to see it immediately
8:49
go wow I get that that's that's great ok
8:53
and
8:54
what you have to do you have to get
8:56
their attention and so going into the
8:59
semantics of how to do a video today
9:03
you're going to if you're a inventor out
9:07
there your list of the show the first
9:08
place you want to start is with a video
9:10
script okay now when I say that I bet
9:15
you're thinking you know I've never
9:17
written a script for a video well most
9:21
people have it but and we're not talking
9:23
about a Hollywood blockbuster here we're
9:25
not talking about you know we're talking
9:27
about 90 seconds worth of script okay
9:31
we're talking about maybe 250 words but
9:34
you as the inventor you must you you
9:38
have your product and you know your
9:39
product better than anyone else on the
9:41
planet okay no one else knows it better
9:43
than you so so put in your in your mind
9:47
and as you're developing not developing
9:49
ideas whatever ID you're working on but
9:52
I want I want to say this as you're
9:54
developing ideas because every inventor
9:56
has more than one idea and hopefully you
9:59
do because that's what we do inventors
10:01
that's what we do we create things so um
10:04
when you you know when you work on that
10:07
idea you want to focus in on how can I
10:11
write a script and how can I direct this
10:14
little video to make my product shine
10:16
now and I'm gonna explain how to do that
10:20
okay um you know you you know if you
10:25
don't know how to make video and I will
10:27
say this guys you can do a video a full
10:30
product demonstration video for less
10:32
than for less than 60 70 bucks
10:36
okay guaranteed guaranteed here's how
10:40
you can do it
10:40
number one you can shoot the footage of
10:42
your product with your own with your
10:44
iPhone or your iPad or whatever phone or
10:48
you can shoot a normal video footage of
10:50
that now you know you know we're all we
10:55
all shoot video now with our phones I
10:57
mean I do you know are they is a
10:59
lighting perfect know is the is is you
11:02
know there's a lot of variables that
11:04
makes it not perfect but it will if you
11:08
do
11:08
take the time put your product on in a
11:11
nice clean area you know really you
11:14
could shoot you know that type of
11:16
footage now so I want you to think about
11:19
that footage and you can hire graphic
11:22
you know video artists on Fiverr
11:25
you know fiverr.com or up works comm if
11:28
you search you can definitely find
11:30
someone who could do this type of work
11:32
fairly cheaply okay and if you got
11:35
someone once says I can do video for
11:37
five hundred dollars of depending on the
11:39
video you know depending on your product
11:41
its complex and you might want to think
11:43
about that but usually you definitely
11:45
can get it done for less than 60 70
11:47
bucks and less shooting your own footage
11:50
but what I want to talk about is the
11:52
video script because it's important to
11:54
know that if you hire a grant a graphic
11:57
designer or someone who's going to do a
11:59
video for you even if you do the video
12:02
yourself if you use when there's things
12:03
you can use called the windows film
12:07
maker it's all free and Windows 10 it's
12:10
on your computer if you don't know if it
12:12
is you can check it out if you have
12:13
Windows 10 or you can use Apple iMovie
12:17
and it's all in your iPhone right here
12:19
you can matter of fact the videos that I
12:21
make for my own company I do right here
12:23
with my iPhone I have every single thing
12:25
in here that I can you know record a
12:28
video you can even I'm going to get
12:32
something out of my drawer here that I
12:33
want to show you can buy a little stands
12:35
that'll hold your hold your iPhone you
12:37
know so whatever it takes to do that you
12:42
know you can do it so but with the video
12:45
script in mind that's the first place
12:47
that starts writing a video script so
12:49
what I'm saying is you want to be able
12:50
to in your mind visualize you know what
12:53
type of format you want your video to be
12:56
you want to visualize what cues you want
12:59
to tell your graphic your person who's
13:01
doing your videos you want to be able to
13:03
direct the show you know as you've heard
13:06
me say it on many shows in the past as
13:08
if you're a product developer you're
13:10
going to wear many hats you're gonna be
13:12
a copywriter you're gonna be a marketer
13:14
you're gonna be a prototype maker you're
13:16
going to be if you do 3d CAD drawing you
13:19
can you're going to be so many things to
13:21
get your product
13:22
market so and yeah you don't have to
13:24
master all these skills you just have to
13:27
be aware of the skills that you have and
13:29
then take you know and figure out okay
13:31
well I'm not good at 3d CAD so I'm gonna
13:34
get someone to do that for me I get that
13:36
you know so but writing a video script I
13:39
want you to sit down with a simple
13:41
notepad or a Word document on a computer
13:45
and I want you to start visualizing your
13:47
video actually thinking about it we all
13:49
watch movies on Netflix we all watch
13:51
movies on TV we all seen the as seen on
13:54
TV we all watch commercials for even
13:56
think about commercials in the format of
13:58
a commercial especially with as seen on
14:00
TV product you know the format is kind
14:03
of fast it's kind of pitchy kind of it's
14:05
kind of you know it shows the problem
14:07
matter of fact as seen on TV commercials
14:10
or videos you can get on YouTube and
14:13
watch any of those videos if you're a
14:16
product developer I encourage you to
14:17
study those videos it those videos get
14:20
straight to the problem and they get
14:23
straight to the solution okay
14:25
they show the the frustration the anger
14:28
or the confusion or whatever that person
14:31
is feeling by not having that product
14:34
and then the boom that suddenly the
14:36
product is there arrives and helps that
14:38
person solve that problem that's what
14:41
you have to think about so your product
14:43
demonstration video should be in that
14:46
type of format but not it doesn't
14:48
necessarily have to be salesy it has to
14:51
be in that format as getting straight to
14:53
the problem showing the solution and
14:54
then getting in and getting out and
14:56
wiling that you know potential licensee
15:00
well it's great they're awesome they
15:12
shoot HD they shoot 1080p I mean they
15:14
have good sound I mean it sound to me is
15:16
the most important but if you're filming
15:18
and you're talking loud enough it should
15:20
be fine right or do you even we just
15:22
speak or you well that's that's I'm glad
15:26
you brought that up now most products
15:29
would tend to you know one of you want
15:33
to speak now that's where you know again
15:35
you as a product developer
15:36
and I'd coach my students if you have a
15:39
product there's some products I've
15:41
developed products there was no there
15:43
was no video I mean no video no voice
15:45
needed it was I mean he strictly will
15:48
show the product to show what the did
15:49
and it got that you know it was totally
15:52
demonstratable but most of them you need
15:54
a voice now me my I hear my voice on our
15:58
podcast and I hear my voice I honestly
16:01
have never used my voice in any of my
16:02
product demonstration videos you know
16:04
because I I'm just I would rather leave
16:08
it to a professional and you can hire a
16:09
professional voice-over artist on Fiverr
16:12
for less than 10 bucks professional
16:15
someone who does it for a living as a
16:17
nice voice is going to speaker your
16:19
script that's why we're talking about a
16:21
script be able to do it for less than
16:23
ten bucks and you got a you didn't have
16:25
a clean no sound no no distraction no
16:30
wind noise snow you know dog barking in
16:32
the background type of thing and it's
16:34
clean and professional and this is what
16:37
I encourage you know if you write a
16:39
script and you know I say writing a
16:41
script your your directing your video
16:43
person and you're also directing the
16:45
voice-over person you're going to tell
16:47
them this is where I want you to speak
16:49
and then you're gonna tell the video
16:50
person this is where I want you to
16:52
insert the footage or this is where I
16:54
want you to insert you know graphic
16:57
showing a problem you know that I'm
16:59
going to solve and it is really a simple
17:03
thing to do just have to learn the steps
17:05
but the first step again is writing a
17:08
video script writing how do you see it
17:10
you know do you know and I want to say
17:14
this carmine
17:16
never ever try to be funny
17:19
in these videos dude enough you
17:24
definitely want to keep it business
17:26
businesslike don't try to be a comedian
17:29
don't don't just don't do it
17:32
these people don't again they don't have
17:34
time for I mean yeah it might bring a
17:36
smile but it also doesn't put you in the
17:39
best light as a professional you want
17:40
they want to see the product and see the
17:42
house gonna solve a problem and and then
17:44
go from there they don't need to be you
17:47
know entertained and also in the
17:50
videos you do not need to tell your life
17:53
story you do not need and I encourage
17:57
you to not tell how you developed a
18:00
product that's a conversation to be had
18:03
with the potential licensee over the
18:04
phone that's something you can talk
18:06
about later on they honestly don't care
18:10
how you did it how you've done it and
18:14
where you are all they care about is the
18:16
product and how it solves us how it
18:19
solves a problem there you go that's
18:22
that's good advice I mean myself
18:30
products that I mean I want to talk
18:33
about everything how I thought of it you
18:34
know I was walking down the road and an
18:36
apple hit me in the head
18:37
oh and my grandmother you know kicked me
18:40
out of the house and they go into a big
18:43
long story and obviously with 60 seconds
18:45
maybe 90 seconds you can't do that you
18:50
can't do it matter of fact here's what
18:51
there's one the biggest advice I give
18:53
all my students about video I call them
18:57
video sell sheets or video demonstration
18:59
videos video product demonstration
19:01
videos is think about this when you're
19:04
driving down the interstate at going 70
19:06
miles an hour or 80 miles an hour and
19:07
you see a billboard and we all have done
19:11
it every single day we do it we're all
19:13
we see billboards everywhere that
19:15
billboard has only got about three
19:19
seconds to catch your attention right
19:22
five seconds to for you to read it and
19:25
understand its message and because
19:28
you're gonna pass it going that fast so
19:30
these marketers these advertisers
19:33
realize that it's speed so it's you're
19:38
going fast so how are they going to
19:40
convey a message and you going that fast
19:42
they have to get straight to the point
19:43
get to the problem show the problem show
19:46
whatever you know if it's a whatever it
19:48
is it's a hotel hey they've got the best
19:50
the most comfy beds and the biggest
19:52
breakfast boom you're past it but you
19:54
understand that hotels up the road that
19:57
quick so it's the same thing with a
19:58
product you know you want to and that's
20:01
why you want to write a brief
20:04
video script and you want to write out
20:07
you know in paragraphs this is the
20:09
problem that you're presenting and you
20:12
can say you can you know you should
20:13
creativity here your again your
20:15
inventors use your creativity and you
20:18
know writing trust me 250 words is
20:20
nothing okay you can do it if you sit
20:23
down and do it you can really do it and
20:25
do it right and then just break out the
20:27
paragraphs showing you know showing the
20:29
problem and to think about that is the
20:31
same thing as writing a provisional
20:33
patent application you're gonna show the
20:34
problem you're gonna talk about the
20:35
solution how your product does that same
20:37
thing in the script but you're going to
20:38
do it in less than 250 words it's really
20:41
simple plus 250 words someone who's a
20:44
voice-over artist is going you gonna
20:45
charge you $10 to say 250 words and it's
20:49
really simple that's a good part about
20:51
so I mean you can basically perfect you
21:03
want you want to write you want to have
21:05
the voice over recording first okay
21:08
after you write the script because I'm
21:10
let me put it in in order here video
21:14
script number one number two
21:16
voice over person if you're going to use
21:19
a voice over person okay and then number
21:21
three then all of that will go to your
21:24
actual video maker your actual video
21:26
person is going to do that if you hire
21:29
freelancers to do that okay now if you
21:32
choose to do all this yourself but you
21:34
still follow the same steps number one
21:36
video script number two if you're gonna
21:40
speak yourself you know use your own
21:41
voice over that's fine and then number
21:44
three and then go straight to your video
21:46
or your video you know program software
21:49
and then put it all together okay those
21:52
are the best way to do it but again if
21:54
you can't do this in less than 90
21:56
seconds you really need to revamp your
21:58
script revamp your voice over and make
22:01
sure that it's under 90 make sure do you
22:04
think that for some people
22:10
[Music]
22:11
when a friend or a relative someone
22:13
that's not as mostly attached to maybe
22:15
health or listen to it before they make
22:17
it and launch it or I mean should there
22:20
be some kind of tech people and you say
22:22
okay world here's my product well as we
22:25
all know I agree with I think you're
22:28
right you know I think you when you if a
22:31
person gets her video done I would
22:33
definitely run it by you know some
22:34
friends and family there's nothing wrong
22:36
with that at all you know show it to
22:38
them before you launch it out to
22:40
centralizes ii but this is where you as
22:44
the inventor have to be honest with
22:45
yourself this is where the gut stuff
22:48
comes in because you have to ask you
22:50
have to answer questions to yourself
22:52
honestly is this is this does this
22:55
convey the message of my product and if
22:58
it doesn't you have to be honest and say
23:00
you know what it's isn't working let me
23:02
go back and do it again and there's
23:04
nothing wrong with that because it's
23:05
better to do it twice for three times
23:07
and get it right
23:08
than to send it out in the world and
23:10
you're gonna get somebody there they
23:13
don't get the message they don't
23:14
understand and guess what you're going
23:15
to get you're going to get knows you're
23:16
going to get rejections so and you you
23:20
know why why do that give yourself the
23:23
best chance best leverage now this is
23:25
where a coach comes into play
23:26
I love taking my students and I love
23:29
looking at their materials and fine
23:31
tuning it trust me I mean I look at all
23:33
their videos and we things that I see
23:36
that you know my eyes see that they
23:38
don't and because you're right inventors
23:42
are close to their products they we all
23:43
love our products but sometimes you
23:45
can't see the force for the trees and
23:47
this is where someone who comes in with
23:49
fresh eyes who is like that's where I'll
23:51
this was kind of a Beyonce I love think
23:53
it's my forte I'm able to take cell
23:56
sheets and videos and really fine-tune
23:58
them to make them I call it getting
24:00:00
ready for the dance because you know
24:02:00
it's true you know if you send stuff out
24:05:00
and you're not ready this is where you
24:08:00
know this is where mistakes are had and
24:10:00
you don't get any results because you're
24:12:00
not ready you're not fine-tuned and you
24:14:00
know and this is where I come into play
24:16:00
as a coach this is going to be the first
24:21:00
time somebody might see your product
24:25:00
you know as you're talking I'm like man
24:26:00
video it's just one it makes it so much
24:30:00
easier not only show what the problem
24:32:00
might be or the or the issue that you're
24:34:00
helping fix but also you know it could
24:37:00
also mean you open to if you don't do it
24:39:00
right if you show oh it's okay your
24:42:00
video enhances not only good thing but
24:44:00
it also enhances bad thing not when I
24:46:00
say bad thing but it can it can enhance
24:48:00
issues you know that the room come up
24:50:00
dirty or or you know the clicking noise
24:52:00
in the background or whatever it is you
24:54:00
want you want it to be a nice video
24:57:00
because it's so important for the person
25:00:00
listening to want to keep watching
25:01:00
that's correct
25:03:00
you know yeah man it's like we scripted
25:06:00
this today karma it was really it's true
25:08:00
you know I see I've seen a lot see a lot
25:11:00
of videos from from inventors from not
25:15:00
being a coach and some of the early ones
25:18:00
you know I mean let me give you an
25:20:00
example of what I've seen and you know
25:23:00
and this is not telling one anybody this
25:25:00
is not I have heard you know dogs
25:28:00
barking in the background I've seen cats
25:30:00
walk across the screen okay I have seen
25:37:00
you know someone videotaping outside and
25:40:00
you hear fire as fire engines but in the
25:43:00
background all of that is a distraction
25:46:00
from your product okay and you got to
25:49:00
think about a potential licensee who is
25:52:00
taking the time out of their schedule to
25:55:00
look at your video you have to honestly
25:58:00
you have to say to yourself as a
26:00:00
president as an inventor I want to give
26:02:00
them the respect and do myself right and
26:06:00
do them right and do something that's
26:08:00
going to convey my message convey my
26:10:00
product in the best light and this is
26:12:00
going what I want to do I'm gonna get
26:14:00
rid of all that stuff and do it you know
26:16:00
do it just do a professional a little
26:18:00
video you can't do a professional video
26:20:00
on your own you can do it or you can't
26:23:00
hire a graphic these graphic artists or
26:24:00
not and again these graphic artists if
26:26:00
you heard me say it you can get a
26:28:00
voiceover for 10 bucks you can get
26:30:00
somebody to do the video for 50 so
26:31:00
you're just 60 bucks in and you didn't
26:34:00
cost you anything to write a video
26:35:00
script just your time right so
26:38:00
you know there you go and then you got a
26:41:00
you've got a video it's gonna last
26:42:00
forever and ever and ever as long as
26:44:00
you're pitching the product it's
26:46:00
professional or they're just have a
26:55:00
picture of their idea they kind of
27:00:00
explain it or if it's not ready to be
27:02:00
shown is it better just to talk about
27:04:00
the issue and what do you think the best
27:06:00
way a product you know pizzazz you know
27:08:00
some people license and products but
27:10:00
maybe just well that's correct you know
27:12:00
you know that's where the sell sheet
27:14:00
comes into play they're gonna see images
27:15:00
of the sell sheet this is why I
27:17:00
definitely and you've heard me say it
27:19:00
encouraging vendors to get a good image
27:21:00
of their actual product whether it's you
27:24:00
know if it's 3d CAD get a 3d rendered or
27:27:00
if you haven't sitting on your on your
27:29:00
desk or your table take a great picture
27:32:00
of it okay haven't Photoshop don't skimp
27:35:00
get it photoshopped even again you hire
27:39:00
someone else to do that for ten bucks
27:41:00
Photoshop your product and get it all
27:43:00
the background and make it clean make it
27:45:00
nice um and when it comes to video and
27:48:00
transferring that image to video yes you
27:50:00
can have one just an image of your
27:52:00
product in a video as long as you talk
27:56:00
about and show how your what how the
27:58:00
problem that your products going to
27:59:00
solve and then show how it's going to
28:01:00
solve it you can talk about that but
28:03:00
here's a way to get around that okay you
28:06:00
can get a three you can even get someone
28:09:00
to do and if you search around you can
28:11:00
get a freelancer to do 3d CAD rendering
28:14:00
and doing what's called an animation of
28:16:00
your of that now and again the animation
28:20:00
should be and when I talk about cartoon
28:22:00
cell animations we're not talking my
28:24:00
Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck we're talking
28:26:00
about some actually and what how I
28:29:00
described it in animation is showing a
28:33:00
3d CAD image in movement in movement
28:36:00
right simple so you can get all this
28:39:00
done again for okay say you spring
28:41:00
another 60 70 bucks on a 3d CAD render
28:44:00
you can find someone to do it for you
28:46:00
like there are even a hundred bucks okay
28:49:00
that's fine because you're going to get
28:52:00
a professional
28:52:00
of your product and then you're going to
28:54:00
show it in motion you're gonna show it
28:55:00
doing what it says it's done now that's
28:58:00
really if as long as potential Isis he
29:01:00
sees that and they understand it you can
29:04:00
license a product that way you
29:06:00
absolutely can I totally believe that I
29:09:00
mean I've never even thought of the
29:10:00
animation and from my research but using
29:16:00
it as a sales sheet you know and that an
29:18:00
animation is understood like 10 15 times
29:21:00
more than in a video or a drawing the
29:24:00
animation for some reason it's moving to
29:27:00
the brain or something it's pretty cool
29:28:00
I like animations that wondered why
29:31:00
there was well I honestly have come to
29:34:00
use them on and on just about every
29:36:00
product demonstration video I make now
29:37:00
for example I developed a shower product
29:41:00
and just looking at it on the on a sell
29:44:00
sheet it looks like some kind of alien
29:47:00
thing you wouldn't even think right so I
29:49:00
had to have an animation showing it how
29:52:00
it actually is applied and how it is
29:54:00
used in the shower for stability and
29:57:00
that was a way to convey the message did
30:00:00
I have a prototype of that no I did not
30:03:00
and do I have companies interested in it
30:05:00
yes I have got five major corporations
30:09:00
looking at this right now with without a
30:11:00
prototype go through an animation to an
30:14:00
animation that's correct
30:26:00
absolutely this I mean it absolutely is
30:29:00
I mean it's worth now again I mean you
30:31:00
guys anyone's tune in to our show knows
30:34:00
that I'm a big advocate on saving money
30:36:00
I'm a big advocate on bootstrapping your
30:38:00
products and that's what it's all about
30:40:00
but if your product needs an animation
30:43:00
or a 3d render then I encourage you to
30:47:00
spend a little extra money on that okay
30:49:00
now I'm not saying spend $500 because
30:51:00
there I'm not saying that because trust
30:54:00
me guys you can find someone who can do
30:56:00
this work for you for fairly cheap okay
30:58:00
and I mean I know this for a fact
31:01:00
because I have guys that do for me okay
31:04:00
but I also went to something
31:06:00
I did that maybe I can encourage someone
31:09:00
out there to do is to teach yourself how
31:12:00
to do 3d CAD drawing teach yourself how
31:15:00
to do cell sheets and design them I am
31:19:00
NOT a graphic artist I'm not even a 3d
31:21:00
CAD drawer I taught myself enough to get
31:24:00
my ideas conveyed and enough that I can
31:27:00
do a professional professionally
31:29:00
designed cell sheet for any product I
31:30:00
have and there's freedom in that it
31:34:00
takes a little time to learn it but
31:36:00
guess what you're doing you're saving
31:37:00
money and you're able to you know to be
31:40:00
able to produce these type of products
31:42:00
and the type of results you want so
31:44:00
something to think about if you have the
31:46:00
time or if you you know if you find
31:48:00
yourself you want to do that then I
31:50:00
encourage you to do that as well oh yeah
31:52:00
I mean that's great advice especially
31:53:00
one with a lot of inventors this isn't
31:55:00
gonna be the only product they make
31:57:00
probably want a license so taking a
31:59:00
little bit of time and actually learning
32:00:00
the process maybe get somebody to do the
32:02:00
first one whilst you're learning a
32:04:00
program program just know the basics
32:11:00
that's exactly right I mean when I first
32:12:00
got started you know trust me I didn't
32:14:00
know how the new 3d cad drawing I did
32:16:00
not know how to do cell sheets so I was
32:18:00
hiring freelancers but I was following
32:21:00
the following the advice that I'm giving
32:22:00
today as I would find freelancers I
32:25:00
would research and talk to different
32:26:00
ones interview them and you know to
32:28:00
answer asked questions and figure out
32:30:00
who's gonna be most cost effective and
32:32:00
be able to give the best work there's
32:34:00
nothing wrong with that but in the
32:35:00
meantime I was teaching myself in the
32:37:00
backend how to do these - how to do
32:39:00
these things and yes if someone come up
32:42:00
to me and said Jeff I needed a
32:43:00
professional 3d CAD drawing for someone
32:45:00
I would have to say I'm sorry I can't do
32:48:00
that but I can do for myself because I
32:49:00
know just enough to be scary on those
32:51:00
type of things right but it works it
32:54:00
works and it saves me money it's a and
32:56:00
it saves time because I'm able to do
32:58:00
that and be able to draw something up
32:59:00
and have an idea on the computer screen
33:02:00
within a couple hours at least a basic
33:05:00
idea of you know and it's there's
33:07:00
freedom in that so something to think
33:10:00
about if you're an inventor out there
33:11:00
you know to go the extra step and just
33:13:00
learn maybe learn how to do cell sheets
33:15:00
on your own there's software that you
33:17:00
can use even even PowerPoint
33:20:00
everyone can I mean if you haven't used
33:21:00
PowerPoint at this point you can use
33:23:00
PowerPoint to design a sail sheet you
33:25:00
absolutely can
33:26:00
yeah I've done it you can do it I mean
33:34:00
the reason that you would get a license
33:36:00
yet somebody interested if your problem
33:38:00
because to me video it is so much easier
33:42:00
for people to watch and watch it they
33:45:00
don't have to read they can know people
33:46:00
are busy so you can set them a link to a
33:48:00
video it shows that you spent a little
33:50:00
bit of time you you're mindful of their
33:52:00
time and you just ask them hey take a
33:55:00
look at this when you get a chance so
33:56:00
that's correct and when it's done
33:58:00
professionally and it's done the right
34:00:00
way and and followed the format's that
34:02:00
I've given today you can't go wrong you
34:05:00
can't you just can't you know you're
34:07:00
going to get interest plus if you've
34:09:00
already made contact with other
34:10:00
potential licensee and you've already
34:11:00
gone to that length you already get
34:14:00
someone interesting your product then
34:15:00
you might as well might as well give
34:18:00
them a good video at a sell sheet you're
34:20:00
going to do that and and there's freedom
34:22:00
in that too because when you're pitching
34:23:00
your product when you know you have a
34:24:00
great video you know you have a great
34:26:00
sell sheet you have a great image and
34:28:00
you got everything lined out then
34:30:00
there's strength in that there's current
34:33:00
so you can pitch your product
34:34:00
comfortably and aggressively knowing
34:36:00
you're gonna give them a good good
34:37:00
product to see it's really good it's
34:39:00
great it's really cool dude I mean that
34:43:00
kind of information we talked about on
34:45:00
the show is so important and it works I
34:53:00
mean three times I've done it work on
35:00:00
another one I love about it is that they
35:11:00
do absolutely they do you can enhance
35:14:00
the filters on YouTube you can increase
35:16:00
the lighting now I will say this you
35:19:00
want to give it the best source you
35:20:00
possibly can on your video and then
35:23:00
enhance it you don't want to have a
35:24:00
video that's all dark and gloomy in the
35:26:00
back or or you can't see the product for
35:29:00
the shadows or you know the sunlight
35:31:00
shining through the light through the
35:33:00
window and it's
35:33:00
you know it you want to give it good as
35:36:00
good as possible but yes you can edit on
35:38:00
the YouTube as well absolutely
35:40:00
filters enhancements you can even add
35:42:00
subtitles or titles it's great really
35:44:00
cool now I will find I will say the
35:46:00
iMovie is really really user friendly on
35:50:00
your iPhone if you're an inventor and
35:52:00
you want to develop a product video and
35:54:00
you you really can use it and it's
35:56:00
really easy to learn that you can get on
35:59:00
YouTube and find out how to easily you
36:02:00
know do a video on iMovie in in 30
36:05:00
minutes you can figure out how to do it
36:07:00
I mean to me I would much rather I'm not
36:11:00
a good person putting things down on
36:13:00
paper or designing stuff I would much
36:15:00
right even though I don't like making
36:16:00
videos I don't have to be on it which I
36:18:00
don't mind doing it but right well you
36:28:00
do I want to say this don't if you're an
36:31:00
inventor out there I understand what you
36:33:00
just said carmine but I definitely
36:35:00
encourage you to have a sell sheet
36:36:00
because the sell sheet again is gonna be
36:40:00
in PDF form when you send it and that
36:42:00
PDF form the video should be embedded in
36:44:00
the P in that sell sheet as well but it
36:46:00
still because remember potential
36:48:00
licensees always work in teams so
36:50:00
they're gonna be able to share that same
36:53:00
sell sheet with the same video link with
36:55:00
their team then they can print it out
36:57:00
and then look and they go to meetings
36:59:00
they could all look at the same sell
37:00:00
sheet so I definitely encourage sales
37:02:00
sheets everyone go away it never will I
37:05:00
would definitely don't if you're in a
37:07:00
vendor don't solely rely on just a video
37:09:00
because a great image of a product again
37:14:00
is still something you're going to have
37:16:00
to have and and you want them to be
37:17:00
interested enough to be to be able to
37:19:00
want to click on that video as well yeah
37:22:00
yeah I was trying to get out of making a
37:24:00
sell sheet but I worried because they
37:28:00
you know just like a book talked about
37:30:00
they might want to have that in their
37:31:00
hand when they go down they show
37:33:00
somebody and they share not everybody
37:37:00
has access to a video right on the spot
37:38:00
so I guess a selfie is important also
37:40:00
well let me talk about that also when
37:42:00
you you know if you say say you design a
37:45:00
sell sheet and even in power
37:47:00
guys it's not rocket science you don't
37:49:00
have to reinvent a new template or new
37:53:00
everything for Sochi once you get the
37:54:00
format of a sell sheet in PowerPoint or
37:56:00
InDesign or any software that you're
37:59:00
using use it over and over again
38:01:00
same bag it doesn't matter if you got
38:04:00
the same background in a different
38:05:00
product who cares right you follow the
38:09:00
same format you know of the cell sheet
38:11:00
and then you just keep reproducing it so
38:13:00
you don't have to think about it's like
38:15:00
Edison wearing the same clothes every
38:17:00
day right he didn't want to think about
38:19:00
it Mark Zuckerberg the same way they
38:20:00
don't think about it
38:21:00
same thing with a sales sheet you have
38:23:00
that you have that template and use it
38:25:00
over and over and over and you can do it
38:26:00
you can do it
38:28:00
very good my friend where as usual at a
38:32:00
time it went by like I feel like we just
38:35:00
talked about this I'm telling you we
38:38:00
could talk about it all this stuff all
38:39:00
day long all day well as usual man you
38:42:00
helped a lot of people I for one and
38:45:00
more after making videos I think video
38:47:00
is super important has a tool in the
38:50:00
hole and you said the word tool it's
38:59:00
another tool that you must have in the
39:02:00
innovation and product licensing you
39:04:00
must have it very cool all right my
39:07:00
